14 OCTOBER
Icon leaps off the page and into a former garage for our first-ever symposium: Icon Minds, in association with Austin-Smith: Lord. It will be a day of talks and debates with some of the brightest minds in architecture and design. Speakers include designer Ronan Bouroullec, architects Farshid Moussavi and Julien de Smedt, conceptual designers Dunne & Raby, novelist Bruce Sterling, architectural theorist Charles Jencks and Storefront for Art and Architecture’s Joseph Grima. As capacity is small, the event is by invite only, but look out for the full coverage on iconeye.com and in the next issue of icon.

DAVID CHIPPERFIELD: FORM MATTERS
21 OCTOBER – 31 JANUARY
The Design Museum is striking while the iron’s hot with its Chipperfield retrospective. The British architect is on a roll, what with winning the Stirling Prize last year and opening a slew of high-profile museums this year. Most recent is his universally admired reconstruction of the Neues Museum in Berlin, which had not been restored since its bombing in the Second World War. Icon’s Edwin Heathcote described it as “one of the richest, most resonant interiors I can remember” (icon 070). The Neues will be the centrepiece of the exhibition, no doubt because of its complexity, but also look out for the Louis Kahn-esque Hepworth Museum
