New Releases from Tomi Haaparanta
Tomi Haaparanta ? has been designing type for a variety of foundries since the 1990s, and we are happy to have his own foundry, Suomi , here on MyFonts since late 2009. Because some of his most eyecatching releases have been casual connecting scripts like the recent Suomi and Cider , his romans – both those designed for text and those specifically for display use – may get overlooked

Tomi Haaparanta? has been designing type for a variety of foundries since the 1990s, and we are happy to have his own foundry, Suomi, here on MyFonts since late 2009. Because some of his most eyecatching releases have been casual connecting scripts like the recent Suomi and Cider, his romans – both those designed for text and those specifically for display use – may get overlooked. Hopefully that will not be the case with Happaranta’s two most recent releases, Tournedot and Tempest.
Released just a few days ago, Tempest is a condensed Roman specifically made for headline setting. As with other Suomi releases, it cincludes Central European & Baltic character sets, lining & old style numerals, and several attractive discretionary ligatures.
Tournedot is a monoline sans – or a semi-serif, depending on which characters you’re looking at – with some of the most unique letterforms we’ve seen in awhile. It includes even more discretionary ligatures as well as two stylistic sets of alternates, one quite a bit more decorated than the other.
